While Current Swell has been bringing us a wide array of music for the better part of the last 15 years, the Victoria-based band is continuously trying to reinvent themselves. With their latest record, When to Talk and When to Listen, the BC-based band delivered a fresh set of tracks for the Current Swell-faithful to digest. They must have liked what they heard, as Current Swell played to a packed house at the MOD Club Theatre, on October 13th!
After a rousing set from Toronto’s own Jane’s Party, Current Swell took to the stage to play their latest single, “It Ain’t Right”. This pop-rock influenced track is very representative of the direction of the new album, When to Talk and When to Listen. It delivers the sing-a-long experience that CW-fans have become accustomed to, but is more accessible for new ears to hear. “It Ain’t Right” is a tune that will see longevity on Canadian airwaves, and abroad! While it was a night to celebrate the new album, Current Swell also made sure to pay homage to their roots, as they were able to churn out such tunes as “Rollin’”, “Too Cold”, and “Young and Able”, among others.
It was a night for Current Swell-fans, both old and new, to rock out to some familiar tunes, as well as a great way to get a taste of the ‘new’-Current Swell, due to the recent lineup changes. Looks like they haven’t skipped beat!
