Ontario’s weed monopoly now has a name. New legislation proposes that as of July 1, 2018 the Ontario Cannabis Retail Corporation (OCRC), an off-branch of the LCBO, will take full control of cannabis regulation in the province. The OCRC will be fully responsible for all sales, both in-store and online, along with the sale of any cannabis-related paraphernalia (pipes, papers, etc). So what does that mean for your local dispensary? It’s likely going to be shut down. Don’t worry though; Toronto has been named as one of the first 14 cities to receive standalone cannabis shops. New laws to be set by the province also outline where you can and can’t blaze, and unfortunately for all the hippies in Trinity Bellwoods toking in public is strictly prohibited. You can find more information on the upcoming rules around legalization in Ontario here.
