Marking the band’s 20th anniversary Death Cab For Cutie have released a live recording of their very first show at The Pacer House in Bellingham, WA. The performance took place on November 22, 1997 and only 25 people were in attendance. The audio was recorded by the host, a dude by the name of Trevor Adams, using a dictaphone. In the accompanying statement lead vocalist and guitarist Ben Gibbard paints a picture of the evening, writing, “Sprawled across couches and sitting crosslegged on the floor were 25 of our closest friends and fellow musicians. Everyone played acoustic or semi-acoustic with no PA. Trevor made and passed bowl after bowl of microwave popcorn because he was (and I assume still is) a great host.” You can listen to the recording over at Bandcamp, and purchase it for $4 with proceeds going to Seattle’s The Aurora Commons.
