Earlier this year Fatih Akin’s revenge drama In The Fade premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. Music featured in the film was curated and created by Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme.
In an interview with Variety this past spring Akin explained why he chose Homme for the soundtrack, saying, “When I was writing this, I was listening to a lot of music by Queens of the Stone Age. I had the feeling that this could be the music that the character was listening to, it has a self-destructive attitude and somehow the film is about self-destruction. I sent him a very early version of the film. He immediately called back saying he loved it and was blown away and that he would like to put his hands on it.” It’s no wonder that the film shares a name with a track off of Queens of the Stone Age’s 2000 release Rated R.
The soundtrack features music from Faith No More, Courtney Barnett, Lykke Li, and of course Queens of the Stone Age; along with original strings and piano pieces created by Homme and fellow band members Michael Shuman and Troy Van Leeuwen. You can stream the soundtrack for In The Fade below.
