After the release of one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year, American Dream, it was only fitting that LCD Soundsystem gave us the tour we were needing.
It has been over 7 years since the release of their last album, and if you were not lucky enough to attend their show at WayHome 2016, it has also been that long since we had seen them live. Fortunately, James Murphy and Co. have not lost a step. LCD Soundsystem brought their American Dream Tour to the Air Canada Centre on December 3rd to much fanfare.
If you have never been to an LCD Soundsystem show before, there’s only one thing you need to remember: dancing shoes! Within the electronic stratosphere of LCD Soundsystem’s sound, there is an underlying sense of joy and jubilance that keeps your body moving. Whatever their secret is, LCD Soundsystem honed in on those feelings at the ACC. Even for a song like “I Can Change”, (which they played third) which dabbles on the themes of break-ups and sacrificing self-principles, it is easy to forget about those worries and just get wrapped up in the beat. On top of that, the light show for LCD Soundsystem was bright and mesmerizing in its own right. Whether it required a flurry of lights or a single beam on a disco ball to illuminate the entire arena, it complimented the performance perfectly. Along with “I Can Change”, LCD Soundsystem played a bunch of their other fan favourites, including “Dance Yrself Clean”, “ All My Friends”, “Someone Great”, and more!
While it has been a long time since we last were graced with LCD Soundsystem’s presence, they are on quite a bit of a roll. Since the Summer of 2016, they have been continuously touring and writing music together, which is a good sign for new music in the future. Thanks to LCD Soundsystem for an amazing night!
