The Total War series is my fave line of strategy games. I can remember back when Warcraft 2 came out, everyone went ape for it. They raved about their epic battles, and how fun the game was to play.
Meh.
It was alright, but real time strategy games--with the exception of Age of Empires 2--were never really all that awe inspiring. To me at least, different strokes for different folks as Sly would say.
Then I played a half turn based, half real time strategy game. It was Lords of the Realm 2 ...
Yes.
I'm aware that so far every game I've mentioned has been a sequel, but I didn't have a home computer until 1996. Well ... we did have a "computer" but it was super old and the only games I had for it were Jumpman and Space Quest 3.

Hegemony
This one really got me excited, a historical strategy game based in ancient Greece made right here in Toronto. It was called, as you've probably guess, Hegemony. you can find all the info about it at

I've been doing a wee bit of conquering since I installed it on my computer.
If you're a fan of the Total War games, this is something I'd look into. Especially since you'd be supporting the LOCAL economy.
