Radiohead plans to return to the studio in January and resume work on its eighth album, according to NME.com. Guitarist Ed O'Brien wrote over the weekend at the band's official website, "The vibe in the camp is fantastic at present. I am so genuinely excited about what we're doing, but for obvious reasons I can't divulge anything more."
O'Brien also took a brief look back at the band's state of mind a decade ago and compared it to how they're feeling now, writing, "Ten years ago we were all collectively (that's the band) in the land of (2000 album) Kid A, and although hugely proud of that record, it wasn't a fun place to be. What's reassuring now, is that we are most definitely a different band, which should therefore mean that the music is different too and that is the aim of the game ... keep it moving."
Radiohead's last album, In Rainbows, came out in late 2007 as a pay-what-you-want download before being released a few months later as a standard CD.
Work on a new disc began this past summer, although at the time both singer Thom Yorke and guitarist Jonny Greenwood expressed doubts about recording in the traditional album format.
The band has not indicated how it will deliver and distribute its next offering.
Yorke, a fierce environmental advocate, made a surprise appearance last week at the United Nations summit on climate change in Copenhagen, although he later wrote online, "I feel deeply traumatized by the whole experience. If you'd been there you would also have been."
