Metallica has announced that the Orion Custom Car & Motorcycle Show will be part of the band's Orion Music & More festival, scheduled for June 23rd and 24th in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The auto show, curated by Metallica frontman James Hetfield, will feature over 300 of the best customs, hot rods, muscle cars and custom motorcycles from across the world, including celebrity cars like Hetfield's own 1936 Auburn Roadster Slow Burn Kustom and 1937 Lincoln Zephyr Voodoo Priest Kustom.
Awards will be given out for Best in Show for each category: Customs, Hot Rods, Muscle Cars, and Custom Motorcycles. Festival goers can also cast their votes for the Fan Favorite.
Drummer Lars Ulrich told us that each member of Metallica's hobbies will get a showcase at the festival: "Anybody that knows a little bit about Metallica knows, you know, what the passions are of the members, so we're gonna try and bring as much of that kind of flavor into it and give people a chance to see some cool art, maybe see some cool movies, see some cool hot rods and cars, and lots of different stuff that they wouldn't necessarily get a chance to see -- certainly at a normal Metallica gig or, but in any kind of other festival."
The Orion weekend will feature acts like Arctic Monkeys, Avenged Sevenfold, Modest Mouse, The Gaslight Anthem, Cage The Elephant, Best Coast, Roky Erickson, The Sword and others, along with a hardcore punk and thrash stage headlined by Suicidal Tendencies and Sepultura.
Metallica will headline both nights, playing 1991's self-titled "black album" in its entirety one night and 1984's Ride The Lightning the other. This will be the only time the band will perform these albums in North America in 2012.
