Mumford And Sons performed at the White House on Wednesday night (March 14th) during a state dinner held on the South Lawn. According to Audio Ink Radio, the show also featured a performance from R&B singer John Legend. The dinner was in honor of visiting U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron, who personally selected the London folk-rock quartet for the festivities. President Barack Obamainvited Legend to play.
The theme of the event was "America's Backyard" and was meant to play off the idea of Americans gathering in their backyards to entertain family and friends during nice weather. The decor was said to be patterned after both American and British gardens. The event was attended by 360 guests, including actor George Clooney, billionaire Warren Buffett, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, businessman Richard Branson, Vogue editor Anna Wintour and many more.
Mumford And Sons will next play a free show at Austin High School in Austin, Texas on Saturday (March 17th) during the South By Southwest Festival, for the premiere of the band's new documentary Big Easy Express.
The movie follows the British group's tour last year across the U.S. in an old-fashioned railroad train. The concert will also be webcast on MySpace.
Mumford And Sons have also been working on material for the follow-up to 2009's breakout debut disc, Sigh No More.
