Jack White has told NME in an upcoming interview that there is "absolutely no chance" that his former act the White Stripes will ever reunite. White explained, "I couldn't see any reason to ever do that. I'm not the kind of person that would retire from baseball and come out of retirement the next year. I mean, if we went to all the trouble of telling people we're done, we meant it, you know? If we were forced to change our mind about that, I can only imagine being the reason, like if for some reason we went bankrupt or something or needed the cash . . . "
White made a surprise appearance on Tuesday night (March 20th) at a listening party for his debut solo album, Blunderbuss, due out April 24th.
Questioned by the Mayor of Lambeth, Councilor Christiana Valcarel, White revealed how his solo album came together. He said, "It just happened one song at a time, like it always does."
Although he did rule out a Stripes reunion, White apparently still considers himself a member of both the Raconteurs and the Dead Weather. He mentioned both when discussing what made him finally strike out on his own, saying, "I'm still in a couple of bands so I'm not missing anything by doing this. But I didn't know I was doing it until I was doing it."
White will tour the U.S. extensively in April and May in support of Blunderbuss and its first single, "Love Interruption."
