Following a 22-second excerpt that was released last week, the first new song from Soundgarden in 16 years has now been released in full. Called "Live To Rise," the track is taken from Avengers Assemble, a collection of songs based on and/or inspired by the upcoming movie The Avengers. Singer Chris Cornellspoke about the track on Los Angeles radio station KROQ Wednesday morning, saying that it was written especially for the soundtrack because the band couldn't decide on an already completed song from its upcoming album.
The vocalist explained, "None of them were really right, which happens sometimes, so we thought, let's do another one. That's the beauty of it." He added after listening to the station play the song, "This never stops freaking me out, that this was written so recently and recorded recently, like last week . . . I barely remember it, it happened so fast."
Cornell also revealed that the band's first all-new album since 1996 is now in the mixing stage. The yet-to-be-titled disc is expected out this fall.
The Avengers Assemble collection also features new tracks from Bush, Evanescence, Rise Against, Papa Roach, Shinedown and others. The album arrives on May 1st, three days before the May 4th opening of the film, which teams up Marvel superheroes Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the Hulk for the first time ever in a live-action feature.
