Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante has stayed away from the spotlight since leaving the band in 2010, but is set to resurface with his first new solo recording since 2009's The Empyrean. According to Consequence Of Sound, Frusciante plans to issue a new EP called Letur Lefr on July 9th. Further details on the disc are yet to be announced, although the five-song effort will feature at least one collaboration with R&B singer Truth Hurts, a.k.a. Share Watson.
Frusciante did two tours of duty in the Chili Peppers, but left for good in 2010 after the band's lengthy touring cycle for 2006's Stadium Arcadium.
His replacement, Josh Klinghoffer, made his debut on the Chili Peppers' 2011 release, I'm With You.
Drummer Chad Smith spoke fondly to us about Frusciante's contributions to the Chili Peppers: "He really would come in with ideas and they were very definitive parts and like big riffs, and when John would come in with something, he'd be like, 'Here it is,' and bam! And he'd play it like he was playing it in front of 100,000 people -- it was awesome. He's such a fantastic musician. I love the guy to death, just a great guy, and what an amazing musician."
Frusciante did make the news briefly last year when he filed a restraining order against a woman who started stalking him at shows and his home in an attempt to collaborate on a book with him.
Although he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last month as a member of the Chili Peppers, Frusciante did not attend the induction ceremony.
