 Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor told the Toronto Star that the band is slowly moving past the death of bassist Paul Gray, although it's been a difficult process for the eight surviving members of the group. He explained, "There was a part of me that was like, 'What does it mean without him? How do we do this without him?' We are all such key pieces to this puzzle. And that's where some of the trepidation comes at all these people wanting us to just rush right back into the studio . . . For me, there's still that 'What's it gonna be like trying to make an album without Paul?' thing. He was the glue. He was the guy that just made ideas better. He was the guy that helped us create such great music because he had such a great ear for it and such a great instinct for it."
- Taylor added that playing live has helped the group, saying, "Part of the process has been getting back onstage and coming together as a family, but in the next couple of years we're gonna have to figure out what the future represents and that's something we don't take lightly."
- Slipknot toured Europe last year and the U.S. this summer, also issuing a greatest hits set called Antennas To Hell. Taylor told us that both were the band's way of saying goodbye to Gray:
- ["You know, we as his family are trying to find the right way to move on and whatnot, and yet still show the respect. I think we've done a good job at kind of balancing that. But you know, hopefully, between this tour and, you know, obviously the best-of, you know, this is our way of not only paying respect, but also taking that step into the future that we kind of have to."] SOUNDCUE (:22 OC: . . . of have to.)
- Slipknot wrapped up their headlining stint on this year's Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival over the weekend and will next headline its own festival, Knotfest, taking place on August 17th in Pacific Junction, Iowa and August 18th in Somerset, Wisconsin.
- The band is expected to enter the studio sometime in 2013.
