Creed singer Scott Stapp has set October 2nd as the publication date for his memoir, titled Sinner's Creed. According to Billboard, the book will be available through the Tyndale House publishing company in both hardcover and e-book editions. Stapp collaborated with Rolling Stone writer David Ritz on the tome, which is said to detail his struggles with fame, drugs, sex, alcohol and depression and his eventual sobriety, return to the band and transformation into a family man.
Stapp told us a while back that he hopes people learn something about the music business and life in general by reading the book: ["I hope that when the book gets out there, I hope that my struggles, my walk, and my journey through this music business and through life in general can be something that can inspire and give someone faith and hope, and also alert others to the pitfalls that are out there."] SOUNDCUE (:15 OC: . . . are out there.)
- In a statement, Stapp commented, "The book describes my childhood, my internal battles with drugs and depression and how I lost control of my life. My memoir reveals never before released details about my life and the challenges I've faced before coming to grips and finding sobriety."
- Stapp told Billboard last year that the book is "not written from a Christian perspective" but will chronicle the spiritual issues he's also grappled with throughout his life and in his music. Stapp was the stepson of a strict Pentecostal minister and many of his songs with Creed also dealt with those issues.
- Creed is currently on a summer tour that brings it to Springfield, Illinois on Thursday (August 16th). The trek wraps up in early September. The band has also reportedly been working on a follow-up to 2009's Full Circle album.
