I miss you Martin!! The Fridays of my youth were spent rocking out at NRG in Burlington and as we got older we moved to Saturdays at the Phoenix in Toronto, some of the best nights of my life - you were the best DJ ever, miss you! My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

Not a day goes by, not 1 F/N day that I do not think of you. I hear new music that I want to share with you. When I see an empty seat at an event, I smile because it is reserved for you. There is so much you are missing, but not as much as I am missing you. Life is harder without you around. We had a great ride, good laughs, great music and awesome experiences. We could still be out, discovering more ways to F**K with the system, drive authority figures crazy and push the envelope further. I will continue, without my entertainer, the one who pushed me to challenge myself and others, my friend, Martin. Peace be upon your gentle, caring and compassionate soul, you deserve it. You hear that? That, the music......

i used to walk home with a buddy on weekend nights that shared my block. he had a portable radio and with one bud in his ear and one bud in mine we'd lengthen that hour 'cause of the tunes martin would play. he's moved away since for a few years, yet came to visit over christmas and we got to see each other. without knowing that martin had left us, i looked at him and said "dude... NICE!" the way Martin would and we both cracked up, remembering those hours that pulled us as friends and made the week livable! feels like i've lost a good friend. i wish him a good journey, and hope those that knew him such as friends and family can see that the life he lived brought something special to a lot of people... rock on bro!! \m/ \m/

Martin ... I STILL think of you, of your kindness, of your passion to your love of music, of you laughter of your passing. I miss you, even though I didn't really know you. Or rather, you didn't know me. I only knew you, when I heard you on the radio, playing some of the most mind-altering, soul-moving and heart-warming music. Just your thoughts on it made me understand and appreciate it as deeply as I do today, as I did then, because you made me listen to a type of music I never imagined I'd love like I do today. Music is my world, and you made my world so much better, with your thoughts, your love of certain types of music, of special bands that made you you, and of course, your kindness to all your listeners. I never could have helped you, but you helped me, in many ways. Rest in peace Mr. Radioman!

its nice to see that this part of the website is still here after all these months. although my original comments were never posted up due to my distasteful thoughts regarding 102.1. Now that he really is gone, you really understand how distinguished his voice and personality and love for music was, and how much he gave to the TO music scene. He loved his job so much, and to be tossed out at 45 years of age after serving for two decades, that really hit him hard. Where was he supposed to go? Its too little too now, and we all don't know what we have, until its gone.

Many, many moons ago, I was working as a mobile rent-a-cop on the graveyard/overnightshifts, and I remember Martin's broadcasts to be the only thing that would make those dreadful 12 hours somewhat bearable. Yeah, the other personalities were good, but there was just something about Martin that cheered me up.
Fast-fowrard 2009, it took his passing to realize that his love of music was what made those broadcasts so much fun. I was lucky enough to work at another 12-hour mobile rent-a-cop shift (I don't seem to learn) during his tribute broadcast, and let me tell you: it was emotional enough that I was sat stationary the entire three hours, just listening to what this man loved listening to. Yeah, I got in serious crap for it, but it's worth having Martin Streek restore my love for music.
Whereever you are, Martin, keep on rockin'.

I'm a displaced Torontonian who now lives in British Columbia, but who still visits Toronto five or six times per year. When I was in Toronto in June, I noticed that Martin Streek and Barry Taylor were not on the air, but I didn't think much of it. However, when I visited in August, it was clear to me that they were gone from the Edge, and I figured that they were victims of yet another corporate re-structuring. I have only now learned that Martin Streek took his own life, and I cannot begin to describe the disconnectedness and loss that this made me feel. As a 30-year listener to the Edge (and the Spirit of Radio), I send my condolences to his family and friends. But I also want to acknowledge Martin's contribution to the Toronto radio and music scene, and to say that they are both diminished by his passing.
